Listening to Pastor Bobby talk about the youths, reading Rachel's e-mail... Sometimes I really struggle to make a stand to agree on something.
When you look at both sides of the coin, when you put yourself into the shoes of another person, when you cross over to the other side, there really is a different perspective and sometimes both sides do have their own valid reasons.
Things like youth service, I semisortof understand why some of the older folks have their reservations against it, and at the same time I can see where Bobby is coming from when he talks about it...
Even for things like messages for OCF. Should we have it more seeker-friendly or should we have it more expository style?
How do we differentiate a good idea from a 'God Idea'???
Hmmm I think,(maybe even for myself), that we have lost the plot?? Am I looking at this the same way Jesus would look at this?
With regards to this, I do have different slant to this than my good friend Kangwei. The bible is more than 'evergreen truth'. It is alive and it is the Word of God. The problem is that we don't realise that the Word is more relevant to us than we imagine.
'All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.'
'For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.'
Jesus even went to the extent of saying this:
'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'
I believe that the Word of God is relevant to EVERYONE, from the non-believer to a new christian to even the pastor himself. The Holy Spirit has the power to convict and change the hardest of hearts, and it doesn't really matter whether hymns or Hillsongs are playing in the service, youth service or not.
Nevertheless, it is hard to be a pastor, especially when it comes to handling the young people....
