Styles Clash

Happy 21st. You're a special boy.

Is it true that when one gets older, one has less to say? Sometimes I wonder, what will be the testimony for me after I die? Will anyone even be there? Hehz

Define great. Sometimes we just envision greatness as something grand. The picture of massess cheering, the spotlight upon a hero, an physical act of large magnitude and scale we can never imagine e.g A king arriving in his shining army, with armies at his disposal. Sure, there's nothing wrong with that, but there is also greatness in being simple.

Something simple, like a mother's love is much greater than we can ever know, unless one is a mother herself. Balancing family, work, leisure, serving in church is not a feat meant for the faint. On that first christmas, greatness came to us in the most simple, humble form we can ever imagine. For if one is to be great, he has to be the servant of all...

'A loving and faithful son, friend, husband and father.' That'll suffice.

Small of many pieces.

Finally been able to access the internet after a long hiatus due to the undersea earthquakes in Taiwan (it's still abit slow though). Despite modern technology, we are still at the mercy of the winds and the waters. In fact, man is pretty helpless against nature.

Hmmmm.

Jonathan, Jon Chee, Gaode, Chee... Different names, same person. Seeing both families in the same place is just weird. MUOCF, as well as my GBC family. To see the reaction of the GBC people to OCF and vice versa (i doubt there will be any viceversa reaction. hahaha)

Things change. People change, places change. Maybe I'm the one that's changed? I dont know.

I like the 'gaode' part of me. Being a part of the 84' batch that just happened to stick around in church all this time while the rest of the young adults above us just mysteriously 'vanish'. To be the pioneers in many aspects. Growing up in a church since a kid just makes me more 'carefree' in church i guess? To take an infinite no. of potshots at ACC and just getaway with it... To see other people around me grow up, to just meet up once a year, laugh and chat with each other, and knowing that there is still a connection there.

I find it uber weird when my other friends find my church sisters/girls pretty etc etc... maximum weirdness... how am i supposed to respond to that? being indifferent? concurring? or just hit the guy? hahaha yeah and dont call me 'gaode' in front of my kids next time please...

The MUOCF part. 'JonChee' the PS. Frankly speaking I've havent got this one figured out yet. MUOCF is much much bigger than my own youth group, 100+ people!. Sometimes I really think that 'JonChee' is a madman/crackpot... hahaha

Integrity problem? I think not, there are many sides to a man. Trust me, your father doesnt act the same at home with the kids compared to when is he at work.

There is a time to be rara, to talk a whole load of nonsense, to play the concentration game, to brood, to think, to be left alone, to shut up and listen, to take up responsibility, to step forward.

Of many pieces.

I'm Blind, not Deaf

Queasy in the stomach. Felt like vomiting the whole night... urgh. A sign of overeating over the festive season? Perhaps. Hopefully I get better tomorrow for more food.

Oh I think Michelle Chia as a food personality is GOOD. hahaha

Sap-ped Out

The unbelievably sappy movies they play on christmas eve: Love Actually and The Family Man... yeah and I actually sat through them both. Well they are actually quite nice movies... haha I've never had a penchant for chinese drama serials, no matter how good they are. Why? Because it's always the same recurring theme: The unending need to fufill a person's seemingly given right at vengeance. It gets tiring after a while, not to mention boring. I especially do not like the island drama serials.... They are just poor. I remember once there was this 'bikini girls running down Orchard Road' drama serial that everyone in my bunk was just so crazy over.... As well as the whole nonsense about a certain star search winner being my ex-bunkmate's ex. hahaha a joke that became a rumour throughout the camp.

I THINK.... that I am slowly liking the feel good genre of movies... The story of an underdog overcoming all odds kinda thing. Be it winning a sports competition, getting his life right etc etc.... A slower paced movie. (a sign of getting old?) hahaha maybe

The First Christmas Carol

Glory to God in the highest.
And on earth peace to men on whom his favour rests

Something to be happy about

Word has it, that 490 SAR HAS BEEN DISBANDED!!! WOOOOOOOOOO!

Plus 3

Hmmm blogging of the top of my head. Just random thoughts since coming back to the island.

Few things that really evoke a response in me:

1) The green no.4 uniform. What is that? It' s the standard camouflage uniform for the island army. Yeah the first time i saw that in a year, it really sent chills down my spine. hehz. apparently, in addition to a name, they have the word 'Sin***ore' sewn onto the uniform now.

2) The state of fashion on the island, or the literal lack of it... Sometimes I just understand why JohnM says 'I dont like summer'. At moments like these, I wished I didnt have perfect eyesight and normally the distateful dress sense comes from ahlians. OK shall stop being critical now.

Other random things

- Bookstores here wrap all their books and people cant read books at the bookstores. People are expected to BUY the books home to read. bummer man.

-Friends getting engaged/thinking of getting engaged. Frankly speaking, it's something that's definitely not that out of the blue. Not everyone's lives follow a certain same set of timing. Soon there will be weddings to attend, and red packets to give. haha the next phase of life

- Met up with different groups of friends today. Yeah just happy to be in their company. Listening to my friends' outlook on life, about earning the big bucks, listening to people complaining about getting old/being uncle. Just chatting and having fun. (Well fun nowadays is just hanging out with people and talking, enjoying each other's company) It's not about the place, the activity, but I guess it's about the company/people we spend time with that makes a difference.

At the end of the day, we just look back at life and have a good laugh at it. To everyone who's reading, have a blessed Christmas and may you find the true meaning of Christmas.

Heart

But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all.

The Cage

Well it wasnt pretty much of a cage. It's just a warehouse with a turf, and 10 people just play soccer/football inside. Loud hip hop music blaring on the speakers to add to the 'atmosphere', but the weather just turns me off.

I AM UNFIT. I've put on a few kilos and i'm starting to feel it. Crap, I was the youngest there and there wasn't a difference between me and all the other 28 year olds. In addition to that, the humidity killed. I've never had that much sweat on lingering on me in a whole year. Not good not good.

In short, got my butt kicked. again. ):

Babysitting

I wonder what ever happened to this kid. He sure isnt that cute anymore. hehz

What have I been up to? Besides laughing at old photographs (i have actually more photos than I think), I actually went BABYSITTING today. Well, it wasnt planned but I ended up babysitting T2's cousins while she shopped!

haha... where did we go? Ended up at the arcade looking at them play games, and watching a movie. (:

Yeah and my stand still remains the same: I dislike ah-lians big time. They should learn to shut their mouths and talk softly. Turned-off big time...

Hmmmm. The island is still boring, I remain adamant about that. It's not about the things to do, but rather the company I guess. 'You don't miss places, you miss the people.'

'Why did you choose me?'
"It's about your heart."
'My heart is not without fear.'
"I am never without grace."

Anyone up for cage soccer tonight? 10pm-12am. After that there's a welcome chee back dota game??? hahaha what the? thanks guys

The Way things were

I think the only familiar thing I have here is my room, which was shared with my brother once, and happens to double up as the study room for my dad when i was around.

Yeah i think i need to get used to the humidity, rain, hawker centres, singlish, bad service (:

Little Drummer Boy

Come they told me, pa rum pum pum pum
A new born King to see, pa rum pum pum pum
Our finest gifts we bring, pa rum pum pum pum
To lay before the King, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,

So to honor Him, pa rum pum pum pum,
When we come.

Little Baby, pa rum pum pum pum
I am a poor boy too, pa rum pum pum pum
I have no gift to bring, pa rum pum pum pum
That's fit to give the King, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,

Shall I play for you, pa rum pum pum pum,
On my drum?

Mary nodded, pa rum pum pum pum
The ox and lamb kept time, pa rum pum pum pum
I played my drum for Him, pa rum pum pum pum
I played my best for Him, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,

Then He smiled at me, pa rum pum pum pum
Me and my drum.

Madness

"Are you a mad and crazy scientist?"

Yes I am on my way to be a scientist. Am I mad and crazy? Well, you've got to have that certain degree of craziness to believe that prayer defies all laws of science, nature and human logic.

Went down to Citylife Knox today and it was a real eye-opener for me. To be part of a 'mega-church' congregation... well to me, anything larger than 1000 is considered mega for me, and it really is a stark contrast to the churches I usually attend.

Learn. That was the first thing that was placed in my heart once I stepped into the congregation. I don't know whether its really true or not, but I just felt that citylife knox was really a church rooted in the community. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

On the day before, I was talking to my cell group leader about finding and settling down in a church. It's interesting to hear people's take about their reasons for being in a certain church, or their criteria in finding one. A loving community, strong in the word, a united vision, a church that is passionate about reaching out and spreading the gospel etc etc.

What about the churches that are not doing so well? What if God sends you back to one of them? What if God places you there so that He could use you to change that place? I always and will always consider GBC my home church and it definitely has a special place in my heart. I believe it was all part of God's providence that I stayed at GBC, and even for a few weeks, I still believe that He can use me, even just to the youths. Revival? We gotta have faith and start believing that revival will come, and it will come.

Even now, despite having the trifactor (No M, no A, no Flight), I believe thatGod will make a way for me back this coming week.

The Reason for the Season: The servant king

Sometimes I can just only stand in awe when I hear the story of Christmas again. This time around, the thing that really sticks out in my heart is the humility of Christ, 'who did not consider equality with God something to be grasped....' The Son of God, who is one with the Lord of Hosts, whom the angels sing and bow down to, came in the form a little helpless babe, born in a manger, delivered by a virgin Mary. His ways are truly higher than ours, and sometimes I really just sit there and listen in awe, just knowing that the Son of God went through so much just for you and I.

A purpose and meaning in life. Dreams that I dont dare to dream anymore. I dont know how it is with every guy, but something that I just secretly desire is to be able to fight for something/someone I love. Ironically, despite of me really not liking physical fighting and wars, there really is war we cannot see out there and God has chosen me to be the PS. Yeah His sense of humour is still there.

Madness. To believe in miracles once again. Follow me as I follow Christ....
Be strong in the Lord and His mighty power

Afterthought

Hope dangles on a string, like slow spinning redemption....

He likes quiche with that latte without sugar
He likes cheesecake, together with a bottle of Stella
He loves to see someone smile.
He loathes sad faces.
He yearns for the simple life, but dislikes himself for thinking too much.
He longs for a simple, unwavering faith.

'Did you ever regret saving anyone?' I asked him.

'How do you even know who you're helping? Let's say a man is drowning or someone is stuck in a burning building. You come in with superpowers and all, save the poor soul from dying, but why do you even do it? For all you know, the man you saved today could be a closet pedophile, a rapist or a serial killer who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and tomorrow he could just go on to kill or rape someone else because you just gave him a chance to live. You wouldnt even know!'

An awkward silence followed. I stared him, trying in vain to figure out the expressions hidden under the masked face. Then slowly he spoke:

'Do you believe in redemption?'

'Everyone deserves a second chance.'

Tuesday, December 12

Trust me, I wanted to be there. Circumstances.

Now I'm hungry.

I always remember what my bro told me, 'You're different. Never forget who you are. ' Now I'm starting to feel it. Guilt setting in.

double sigh...

Trouble Sleeping

It's 6am. Trust me, I never intended to wake up this early for no good reason.

I never wanted to wake up in cold sweat, to find my bed totally empty, with all the pillows, sheets and the comforter (of all things) thrown all over the floor...

Sunday, December 10

Christmas for a Reason.

Christmas is coming and I'm looking forward to it. Normally, it's just like any other holiday season, but somehow this year, I'm expecting something different. There's this thing in the back of the head that's telling me it's gonna be GOOD this year (:

Silent nights. To get to know Him more.

Oh on a side note, i do hope i can get a flight back to the island. Looking at the way things are going, yeah I'll just have to believe.

I like kids. I dunno how to really put this into words. I dont really hug kids, talk to them, sing with them, play with them. I try, but I dont think I'm really good. Kids just look at me and go 'wow....'. But there's just something about a child's smile which i really like. I can't really put my finger on it, but it hurts me bad to see a lost, crying, sad child.

Children dont deserve to be sad. Peace. It's something worth protecting and fighting for.

Frail

I fear this love reaction, like you said I would....

oops. sometimes things just dont happen to turn out my way. my luck doesnt run that far.

oh well in all things be content (:

Conversations with an angel

"Hi! I'm your angel"

'Oh! thanks!' *stares in disbelief*

"er... do you serve alot in OCF?"

'er.... i just help out with prayer in my centre'

"oh so you help the prayer secretary?"

'I am the prayer secretary'

"oh. then say so la!" *priceless look*

New Dawn

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is notpuffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things...

It's never about me... Expect nothing in return.

The older brother syndrome... I really pray against that. Sometimes, I feel just like the prodigal son's older brother. Looking at the people around me, those who accepted Christ in recent years, those who are younger than me. I just look at how amazingly God has blessed them, in terms of knowledge, spritiual gifts, physically as well. Compared to myself who has supposedly been a christian for 12+ years?? I feel put to shame sometimes, even sometimes feeling like Jonah. The message at convy really rings.

'If you never felt like the older brother, you dont know God's grace at all.'

“And he said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours.

Grace.

That crummy feeling

Yeah when words mean nuts to people i guess... :(

When you got a gut feeling that things are not ok.

Sigh. I've never sighed that much before...... maybe that's part of being human.

How many times?

Maybe sometimes being subtle is not enough...

Hmmm how many times we never see something to the end. Every shot a sportsman make, be it basketball or football, he always see the shot to the end, until the ball hits the net...

I guess sometimes I'm guilty of it in prayer, I never hang around to see the answers. or I do not presevere in it. Pray with faith and believe.

Other facts

Acronym games, late night talk shows with SK, walks to lakes/ponds/swamps, finally having an angel that actually gives me stuff and reveals themselves.

yeah all part of the weekend (:

Unchanging truth, Undying love

What is it?

God love you.
God has a plan for you.
Sin seperates us from God
Jesus died for our sins.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

The message of the Gospel. I should be eating living sleeping breathing the message of Christ. Do I do everything in the name of Christ and for the glory of His kingdom?

It has been an eventful four days, and miraculous nonetheless.
It was as if every single prayer that was said at IP, God presented the answers physically to me. Glory to God. To people it might be just another simple sharing, but to me its really all just answered prayers and seeing the name of God being glorified.

Ask and ye shall receive
Seek and ye shall find
Knock and the door shall be opened unto ye.

If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.

His word is truth. No doubt about that. The power of faith in prayer. Missions and prayer go hand in hand. Never seperate them. But it really was a time of thanksgiving for me to see prayers being answered. How great is our God.

It's interesting how God always sobers me up. For a while, every morning prayer I start off with is 'Thank you God, for I am still alive'. I never really knew why i prayed that, but I guess it just stuck, and I am really grateful for life itself. Then it really gripped me one night that the Lord gives and takes away. Hence the question that really tore me apart what if one day, out of a sudden God really decides to take my life away... literally.

To live is Christ, to Die is Gain.

When people talk about surrendering, they talk about time, money, careers, relationships. It's all important, but the question that is what about LIFE itself. Afterall, Christ was obedient until death, and we talk about living like Christ did. There is definitely going to be persecution, and in some cases DEATH. Am i willing to die for the gospel/Christ?

Life changing experience? Perhaps. 1 life, 1 shot at preparation for eternity. Sobering isnt it.

But I still give thanks that it'll be Grace that takes me home.

Another one of things that struck me was the simplicity of the man I roomed with at convy. Simplicity. A simple faith, a simple man. He did everything with a smile despite his disabilities... I really like simple people. Life should be that way... simple.

Never thought I would blog again that soon, but yeah....
