Apocalypto is not my cup of tea. First of all, I really was expecting to see a movie about the downfall of an ancient civilization but all I got was a senseless action flick about a few hunters.
Despite that, I have to say that Mel Gibson has done a good job with the filmography. Apocalypto really is a visual spectacle and wouldn't expect any less from him. A very well filmed movie. However, the representation of Mayan was really one-sided. Was the ancient civilization all about human sacrifice and pagan worship?? That I really do not know.
Besides that, I personally think that there was too much unnecessary gore and blood in that movie. Sometimes i really wondered whether some scenes were really needed. Frankly speaking, additional gore and action does not cover up for a lack of good storyline.
Give Apocalypto a miss.
