The Beautiful Game

I was never a fan of Zidane, but there is no doubting his sheer class. A world class player one cut above the rest.

An art film about football (never thought it existed) ... a film on the 90 minutes of a single football game in which the cameras never once panned away from Zidane. Some might not appreciate it, but it really is breathtaking to see a game through the eyes of a magician. His movements are like clockwork, not one too many. Efficiency. He never looses possession of the ball.He doesn't waste unnecessary energy on tricks, just plain simple passing and running. Yet everything about it seems so graceful... The way he weaves through the defence as though he's untouchable. The moving into space, the seemingly impeccable first touch... The film captures his emotions, the focused and silent player on the pitch who yet can suddenly explode into a hotheaded confrontational creature....

I think my exorbitantly expensive movie ticket was worth it. A really different perspective into football. Certainly there wasn't alot of action, but to see HOW a player like Zidane plays really is beautiful.
